HOW TO INCREASE YOUR PRODUCTIVITY IN YOUR PROFESSION

To increase productivity in your profession there are certain actions you can take to make improvements come quickly. The methods you can use to increase your productivity is what we are going to discuss below.

1) Improve on your Personal Effectiveness- I am a fan of the ‘we become what we think about’ mantra. Knowing that you can become what you think about leads to the point that your thoughts must be in line with the kind of person you want to become.

Do you want to be a leader with influence?

Do you want to be a professional with renowned effectiveness?

Do you want to be a person people can trust?

Do you want to be known as a man of integrity?

The questions about what you want to become are endless. This means you must be ready to make a deliberate decision to call for a change in your life.

It is a true fact that we become what we think about. If you want to increase your productivity, you must equally tell yourself you want to improve and you must begin to imagine what it will be like to be that person you want to be.

Actions are a reflection of our thoughts. After you have given thought about the things you want to do or become, the next step is to take action steps based on what you want to achieve.
Action is the key to check how effectively you are doing.

Thinking is a continuous process of self-reflection and personal improvement. This is the law of growth, which leads me to the next point to increasing your productivity.

2) Focus on your Outcomes and Results- Ask yourself, “What results am I getting?” “Am I getting the required outcomes from my work?”

You should check yourself to see the level of productivity you are at the moment and ask yourself if you are growing.

The law of growth is the law of nature. To be more productive you must outperform your previous results.

Are you making progress? If not you need to make adjustments. If you get a negative result in your work every day, it is an indication that you need to change something.

In learning any professional skill, you don’t become an expert in one day. It is a gradual process of growth.

Day by day you become better at what you do.

I remember reading in Anthony Robbins’ book, Awake The Giant Within, he wrote about the CANI principle. It is a personal development tool.  CANI means Constant And Never-ending Improvement. Anthony Robins explained that day by day you must make moves to improve on yourself.

A simple 1% change in improvement in your professional activities can bring about a great increase in productivity. And you need to take notice of the changes you are experiencing.

This principle can also be used on your products and other areas of your personal life.

It is all about observation. Know the result you are getting. Know your outcome. If you know where you are standing you will know where you are going.

The next and concluding step you need to make to increase productivity is what is usually called the Law of Karma.

3) The Law of Cause and Effect- Whatever you sow is what you reap. If you put in a bad job you will get a bad result.

They say practice makes perfect. But imperfect practice produces imperfect results.

If you make the wrong moves in your game you will get bad results.

So you must tell yourself that “I must give my best shot”.

The law of cause and effect is the law of life. If you sow bad seeds you will reap bad fruits.

To increase your productivity you must put in improved efforts. You can’t slack in your efforts and expect better results. You must give your clients and customers the best and they will reward you with good.

There is this story about a construction contractor who was told by his company to do his last job before his retirement. He was asked to use every available resources to build that house.

This contractor built the house but he did not put his whole mind to it. He did not put his best effort into the construction. He even used inferior products to build the house.

At the end of the day when he was done with the job, the owner of the company told this contractor that this last house he built is his retirement gift.

Assuming this contractor knew that this house is to be gifted to him he would have done his best job and using the best resources available.

It is about knowing that every action you take has a resultant effect on your productivity.

If you are doing a project, put in mind the sustainability approach. Ask yourself if what you are doing today will be relevant to benefit the next generation to come.

Whatever you are producing think about the future generations that will benefit from what you did today.

Ask yourself what your future self will think about your current activities. Will you be proud of your today’s effort?

Come to think of it, the great leaders of the past we are celebrating today gave in their best that is why our generation today still celebrates their works today.

We can become like Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Margret Thatcher, Mahatma Gandhi, and so many other great men.

It is what you do today that matters.
